Cetylev approved by USFDA

The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has approved Cetylev (acetylcysteine effervescent tablets) as an antidote for acetaminophen overdose. The drug is to be manufactured by Arbor Pharmaceuticals.

Cetylev is indicated for prevention or treatment of acetaminophen overdose-induced hepatoxicity, which is common after acute overdose ingestion or after repeated supratherapeutic dose ingestion.

Cetylev is available as ready-to-use effervescent, mint-tasted tablets that can be mixed with water. As of now, acetylcysteine is available as inhalation or intravenous dosage.
