Levomefolic acid calcium is a synthetic form of folate. Folic acid supplements are indicated for the treatment or prevention of folate deficiency related disorders including anemia. Levomofolic acid calcium is also prescribed to treat low folate levels associated with renal dialysis, malnutrition, alcoholism, liver disorders and pregnancy.
In pregnant women, Levomefolic acid calcium is prescribed to prevent birth defects such as neural tube defects and spina bifida.
