The US Food and Drug Administration has asked Indian pharma firm Claris, to recall three of its intravenous antibiotics and an anti nausea drug due to contamination.

A nationwide alert has been issued to doctors and hospitals for the same.

The drugs affected are the antibiotics Metronidazole, Ciprofloxacin & Ondansteron and a drug which prevents nausea and vomiting caused by surgery and chemotherapy.

The FDA received reports of floating matter being found in intravenous bags of Metronidazole and Ondansetron.

These products are manufactured by Claris, and supplied to US based firms like Pfizer, West- Ward Pharmaceuticals and Sagent Pharmaceuticals.

The FDA said in a statement, "Healthcare professionals should not use these products and should immediately remove them from their pharmacy inventories,"

Currently, the FDA is continuing with investigations and will provide further information when available.
