Following a tip-off by Hindustan Lever Limited’s regional manager Mr.Akilesh Pandey, a team of Haryana police CIA unit were accompanied by IP rangers’ company representatives quickly raided four houses in Pio-Maniari village (Kundli) and busted an illegal small-scale industrial unit, which was actually a spurious cosmetics manufacturing plant.
Police recovered raw materials, ten manufacturing units and spurious cosmetics worth of rupees five crores approximately. The Superintendent of police of Sonepat said that the spurious cosmetics are being sold in the market with the fake labels of Vicco, Godrej and Fair & Lovely.
In the illegal cosmetics manufacturing plant, the police recovered four barrels of cream, weigh approximately 355 kilograms, pouch-filling and packing machines, twenty thousand spurious Godrej hair dye sachets and more than 2000 tubes of fake Vicco turmeric cream and eighty five thousand empty tubes.
In this connection, the police arrested ten workers of the illegal plant and interrogated factory manager who was identified as Daya Shankar Dube. Based on the input provided by Dube, the police team filed cases against factory owners Ved Prakash Gupta and Hariom Mishra who hailed from the same area. But the owners are still at large.
A FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators based on the complaint filed by IP rangers’ company representative and they are booked under various sections including patent act, crime acts under IPC and Drugs and Cosmetics act. A high-level investigation is on and the police are looking for more people in connection with the illegal cosmetics racket.
