Ticagrelor, a platelet inhibitor drug, is indicated for the reduction of thrombotic events associated with acute coronary syndrome, non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and unstable angina. Ticagrelor can reduce the mortality rate among these patients and comparatively effective than Clopidogrel.

Pharmacodynamics

Ticagrelor can reversibly interact with platelet P2Y12 ADP-receptor and prevent platelet activation.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, Ticagrelor is moderately absorbed with bioavailability rate of 36%. The Vss of Ticagrelor is 88 L, and the plasma protein binding capability is more than 99%. Ticagrelor is metabolized via the CYP3A4 enzymatic pathway. The main route of elimination is via the biliary excretion and feces or urine to some extent. The Tmax of the drug is 7 hours and 9 hours for its active metabolites.

Ticagrelor can cause atrial fibrillation, hypertension, dyspnoea, nausea, dizziness, cough, hypotension, chest pain, diarrhoea, fatigue and back pain. In some patients, Ticagrelor can cause gynecomastia, bleeding including major or life-threatening bleeding.
