Desflurane, an inhalation anesthetic drug, is indicated for the induction of anaesthesia during surgical procedures in adults. Desflurane can be employed for the maintenance of anesthesia in children and infants. However, Desflurane is contraindicated in non-tubated children due to risk of secretions, respiratory adverse events including laryngospasm and coughing.

Desflurane is contraindicated in patients with skeletal muscle hypermetabolic state that may lead to malignant hyperthermia. Desflurane should be used in Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients due to risk of perioperative hyperkalemia. Desflurane should be used with caution in patients with hepatobiliary disorders
