Cetrorelix acetate, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) inhibitor, is indicated for the treatment of delayed luteinizing hormone surges and ovulation process in women who are assisted reproduction treatment (IVF). The drug inhibits ovalution in the female reproductive physiology.

Pharmacodynamics

Cetrorelix acetate competitively inhibits the binding of GnRH with the membrane receptors on pituitary cells and controls LH and FSH release. The drug delays the LH surge and prevents ovulation.

After subcutaneous administration, Cetrorelix acetate is rapidly absorbed within two hours. The mean bioavailability of Cetrorelix acetate is about 85%. The Vss of Cetrorelix acetate varies and depends on the dosage. The plasma concentration of the drug is equal to follicular fluid concentrate on the day of egg pickup. The drug is mostly excreted in the urine and bile as unchanged drug.
