Zaltoprofen, a novel NSAID, is prescribed for the treatment of lumbar pain, frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal pain, dental pain, post-operative pain, cervicobrachial syndrome, other pain and inflammatory conditions. The drug exerts antiphlogistic and analgesic effects.

Zaltoprofen is a preferential COX-2 inhibitor. The drug selectively inhibits PGE2 (Prostaglandin E2) that mediates the pain pathway. Zaltoprofen inhibits bradykinin-induced pain responses without interfering with the bradykinin receptors.

After oral administration, Zaltoprofen is well absorbed (82%) in the GIT. About 98% of the administered drug is bound to plasma proteins. The drug is mostly metabolized by hepatic UGT2B7 and CYP2C9. The drug is metabolized into conjugates and S-oxide forms. No systemic accumulation has been reported. About 62% of the administered drug is excreted via the urine as drug conjugates.
