Hydromorphone can cause confusion, severe weakness, drowsiness, seizure, wheezing, chest tightness, paced heartbeats, drowsiness, vision changes, flushing, insomnia, itching, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain and behavioural changes.

Precautions

Hydromorphone is contraindicated in patients with narcotic analgesics allergy including morphine, codeine and methadone. Hydromorphone should not be prescribed to patients with asthmatic attacks, COPD, spinal curvature, history of head injury or brain tumor, hepatic or renal disorder, thyroid dysfunction, sulfite allergy, hypotension, prostate disorders, pancreatitis, Addison’s disease, seizures and bowel obstructions.
Hydromorphone can cause habit-forming. Hydromorphone should not be prescribed to individuals with history of alcohol/substance abuse.

USFDA Category C: Hydromorphone may be or may not be harmful to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment. Gestational administration of Hydromorphone increase risk of premature delivery and decreased baby weight with symptoms of withdrawal symptoms in infants.
